We visited the Cambridge TCG Cardshow
Hi slowbro squad, it is the SlowBrosTCG, and we recently visted the #4 Cambridge TCG Show on April 6th &, 2024, at Cambridge Regional College. The Cambridge TCG Show UK Card is a trading card event, featuring over 70 vendor tables filled with Pokémon boxes, singles, graded cards, and more. There is also two food vendors, a kids club, and an official trade night hosted by Cambridge Collector Nights. In this blog post we wanted to give a little insights into the event and what it was like.
We purchased two standard tickets a few weeks before the event. This was not our first experience at the Cambridge Card show, we did attend the #2 Cambridge TCG card in the summer of last year. We set off on a number 2 bus in the morning of the event and arrived at 11 am. The event was already very busy at this time, which is a small criticism of the event. The venue is a little small for the amount of people attending the event which can make moving around a little awkward, but everyone is very nice and this isn't a massive issue. It might benefit from a larger venue or a different layout. The event is laid out with multiple vendors all with a table or set of tables around the inside of the venue.
One of the best aspects of the Cambridge TCG Show is the opportunity to find unique Pokémon merchandise from individual sellers. These vendors bring their personal curated collections and art works, and you can find handmade Pokémon artwork, cup coasters, drinks bottles, key rings and much more merchandise that is not on the high street. For example, we met a vendor who was selling her own curated pokemon coasters and we purchased a mudkip coaster.
Another stand out feature of the Cambridge TCG Show is the presence of independent Pokémon businesses. These people bring a range of unique products, adding a special touch to the event. For instance, PinPal offers a unique binder designed specifically for storing your Pokémon pins. It's an excellent way to keep your collection organized and display your favorite pins. These small businesses add a special touch to the event and it is nice supporting local small Pokémon business' and adds a personal touch to the show.
A final feature of the Cambridge TCG Show that we would like to point out is the range of fun activites that are at this event, including graded mystery slab lucky dip and Pokémon mystery raffles. These extra activities add an additional layer of fun to the event where you can get a random graded PSA card or win an elite trainer box. It's a fantastic way to expand your collection and discover new treasures.
One area where the Cambridge TCG Show could improve is the availability of food vendors. During our visit, we noticed that there were only two food options, which limited variety, especially for attendees with dietary restrictions. There was a pizza van selling pizza at reasonable prices and a doughnut stand, we did try the doughnut and it was delicious! But we both feel like offering more choices could be something the organisers could consider for the next one
At this event, we also took part in a thrilling self-curated 10-minute Pokémon scavenger hunt. We had to collect specific items like a vaporeon card, a Pokémon pin, and a mystery slab amongst others. We managed to collect nine out of the ten items on the bingo sheet, but the elusive Pokémon burger king card euded us, leaving us one short. Despite the disappointment, the experience of doing this challange was unforgettable and wanted to extended a massive thank you to everyone who agreedto take part. Everyone was extremely supportive and willing to lend a hand towards this challenge, special thanks goes out to Toby's TCGs friend who helped suggest a random Pokémon card we had to find and buy! He did suggest a base set booster box at first 🤯 but we got him to cone down to a vaporeon. Check out the video for this bingo below
